This year’s event will welcome first-time competitors from Cuba, Nicaragua and Mongolia while other nations will only be represented by one or two athletes.
Beginning in 1932, The Games, also called the Jewish Olympics, had 5,000 athletes from 22 countries, including the United States. Yosef Yekutieli, creator of the event, led motorcyclists as they circled throughout Africa and Europe in promotion of the Games. This year, the Games are expected to draw 71 countries and 8,500 athletes. The opening ceremony will be held on July 18, 2013 at Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem. We wish these athletes the best of luck!
