Over 8,000 gymnastics fans attended the US Secret Classic in July at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, IL. The event began Saturday, July 27 with the Junior Women's Competition at 1:00 pm and the Senior Women's Competition at 6:00 pm.

2012 Olympic Gold Medalist and GK Competitive Catalog model, Kyla Ross, of Gym Max in Aliso Viejo, CA won the senior all-around title earning a score of 58.650. Kyla took a second gold for her outstanding performance on the uneven bars with a score of 15.400. Her balance beam performance was just as intense with a score of 14.650 in second place.

Kyla wore GK's Chic Sweetheart Competition Leotard 7562 a gorgeous long sleeve gymnastics leo in Sangria Mystique, with shimmery Gold Leaf Mystique sleeves and elegantly accented with Sangria SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS. The Junior Session resulted in champion, Bailie Key from Texas Dreams earning the top score at 58.250. Her floor exercise was impressive with a double arabian and double pike earning her a 14.0 score. Her exquisite performance on the bars came in at 14.25. Bailie topped off the competition on the balance beam showing her superior flexibility with a score of 15.0. She has a very promising chance to win the title at Championships. Bailie has been a GK Elite model for our competitive gymnastics catalog and is shown above wearing a custom designed gymnastics leo by GK. The 2013 Secret U.S. Classic was the final qualifier for four gymnasts who have not previously qualified to move forward to the 2013 P&G U.S. Gymnastics Championships in Hartford, CT on August 15-18th. These athletes will compete for berths into the U.S. National Team. Gymnasts included in this qualification are Vanasia Bradley of Lincoln Park, Michigan from Splitz Gymnastics; Nadia Cho of Plano, Texas from WOGA; Christina Desiderio of Hackettstown, New Jersey from Parkettes Gymnastics; and Sydney Johnson-Scharpf of Groveland, Florida from Brandy Johnson’s Global Gymnastics.

Erica Jones, a GK designer for over six years, graduated from Albright College with a degree in fashion design.  Erica recently said, “To honor USA Gymnastics’ 50th Anniversary, I started with an elegant base design and incorporated the colors of the American flag.  The design was then refined with golden crystal accents throughout.  I chose a rich blue as my base with nude mesh inserts on the front and sleeves.   I wanted to create a design that captured the mood of our flag, but utilize traditional elements in a more abstract, non-traditional way.  This asymmetrical design features stars that radiate from the shoulders down through the bodice and eventually fade into the blue.  Stripes are depicted as radiating from stars on the sleeves and upper bodice.  The design uses a variety of colors and sizes of Swarovski Elements that intermix together into a unifying piece."

The 49th Annual USA Gymnastics National Congress and Trade Show is a three-day event held in conjunction with the National Championships providing a unique opportunity for demonstrations, presentations, and educational seminars on various topics and a large vendor exhibit offering vast business opportunities. GK is holding it's 4th Annual Fashion Show, scheduled to be held at the USA Gymnastics National Congress and Trade Show on Thursday, August 15th at 10:30pm.  The Show will be held at the Society Room of Hartford at 31 Pratt Street, across the street and one block down from the XL Center where the US Gymnastics Championships will be held.

World Olympic Gymnastics Academy (WOGA) gymnasts didn't just wow their competitors and fans with their performances, but also mesmerized them with their dazzling GK leotards at the 2013 Secret U.S. Classic.  The Classic was held on Saturday, July 27th in Chicago, IL.

WOGA, co-founded by former Olympic Gymnastics Champion Valeri Liukin and World Sports Acrobatics Champion Yevgeny Marchenko, is one of the largest and most successful training centers worldwide.  Olympic All Around Gold Medalists Carly Patterson (2004) and Nastia Liukin (2008) trained at WOGA.  WOGA's reputation was upheld at the Classic when their gymnasts made a strong showing.  Madison Kocian earned the second-highest score behind Kyla Ross on the senior level uneven bars.  Way to go, WOGA!

Simone Biles of Bannon's Gymnastix in Houston, TX showed off some of her new skills at the 2013 US Secret Classics in Chicago, IL on July 27th. In 2012, Simone was the Junior National Champion on the vault and won a bronze medal in the all-around competition.

Two-time Olympic Medalist Aly Raisman was one of three celebrity guests at an event for dog lovers and their pets hosted by IAMS So Good! in Union Square Park!  This event, held in New York City on Tuesday, July 30, raised awareness about what really goes into the dog food that pet owners are feeding their furry friends and promoted IAMS' newest product, So Good!, made especially for dogs from 100% wholesome ingredients.

Along with Nick Cannon and his Jack Russel Terrier, The Reverend Pow Jackson, and celebrity chef Art Smith and his dog Cochon, gymnast Aly Raisman and her adorable pooch Coco spent time with their fellow dog lovers in the open air of Union Square Park.  Aly said she wasn't the only one enjoying the celebration!  She told examiner.com, "Coco loves New York, it's such a gorgeous day, she just hates when I have to leave without her, sometimes I even catch her jumping into my suitcase!"

Unlike Aly, Coco isn't quite as accustomed to being in the spotlight!  Since medaling at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, Aly has gotten used to flashing cameras coming her way.  She told us that poor Coco was shaking so much while camera after camera snapped her picture!

June was a busy month for Parkettes National Gymnastics. The First National Elite Qualifier Competition of the summer elite season was held on June 14th and 15th at the Parkettes National Gymnastics in Allentown, PA. Four gymnasts were looking great in their GK warm ups, as they posed below after qualifying to move forward to the American Classics which was held late July in Chicago.

Twin City Twisters based out of Champlin, MN competed recently at the Secret US Classic, represented by Senior Elite gymnast, Maggie Nichols, and Junior Elite gymnast, Abby Paulson. The US Classic featured some of the top women gymnasts while they prepared for the US Gymnastics Championships and for some qualified to move forward into the event.

So much is going on in the world of gymnastics lately, especially for Kyla Ross, a 2012 Olympic Gold Medalist and GK Competitive Catalog Model. Kyla Ross recently claimed the title in the All-Around and second place in the balance beam in July's 2013 Secret U.S. Classic, in Chicago, IL. We were thrilled to have the chance to talk with her about her recent gymnastics success and see how she is feeling about her future. Enjoy our question and answer session with Kyla who represents Gym Max out of Aliso Viejo, CA and learn about her secrets to success before she competes at Championships.

1. What have you done to prepare for Championships and how do you feel you are ready? I have continued to work on consistency and some upgrades while also increasing my stamina. I feel the extra weeks since Classics have been really helpful!

2. Are you on any special diet in preparation for Championships? Are there any recommended foods to maintain your stamina?  I  have always  incorporated a lot of fruits and vegetables in my diet along with healthy protein.  The one thing I must say is that I never skip meals and I always have a light snack handy so that I never get hungry.  I always try to stay very hydrated with water rather than flavored drinks.  When competitions are approaching I do like to be more disciplined and make a conscious effort to eat clean and limit treats!

3. How many hours a day do you spend training? I normally train about 4-5 hours per day, 6 days a week

4.  What is the best advice you can give someone to remain confident about their performance at Championships? To relax and rely on all the hours of hard training and preparation in the gym. The last few days before the meet its all about fine-tuning, as well as mentally staying focused.

5. What do you love about your gymnastics apparel designs you will wear from GK for the competition?  I am excited to wear the two GK leotards that I chose for Championships.  They are both so different and not my typical selection.  My day-one leo design is a Black and Berry Mystique leotard with a key hole back and higher neckline which I thought gives it a fun retro look. My day-two leotard is Nude Mesh and Red Mystique which has a very elegant look.

6. Have you tried our Under Armour® styles yet? If so, what do you think?  Yes, I have tried several of the Under Armour leotards and love them. Because I have a long torso I rely on a nice snug fit so several of the new leotards are very comfortable for me! I particularly like the one called "Perseverance", it's nylon and mystique which is a great combination for practice wear for me! I really like the color combination too, silver and turquoise. Comfort and fit is very important to me, so these leotards work really well! I also really liked the new Under Armour apparel used for our recent international assignments this spring, as well as our competition leotards.

7.  What are your goals for this year? My goals for this year are to continue working hard and upgrading my gymnastics skills. I would very much like to represent USA at World Championships in Belgium in October.

8. What do you like to do to wind down and relax after training?  To wind down and relax after training I like to read, watch TV, shop, go to the beach and hang out with my friends. I also enjoy spending time with my family.

The gymnasts of the Parkettes National Gymnastics Training Center, located in Allentown, PA, looked amazing in their GK leotards as they competed at the 2013 U.S. Secret Classic in Chicago, IL, on July 27th.  The Classic showcased some of the nation's most talented gymnasts and served as the final qualifier to the 2013 P&G U.S. Championships which will be held in Hartford, CT, from August 15-18.

The Parkettes created a custom design leo, shown above, in Orangeade Sparkle and White Mystique with Gold Mystique accent on the front, back and sleeves.  To really make them stand out, they artfully adorned the leotard with shimmering Brilliance SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS.
